Environmental Enforcement Officer

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are currently looking for an Environmental Enforcement Officer to join a leading local authority in their environmental services team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and dedicated professional to contribute to the enforcement of environmental legislation and improve the quality of life within the district. Based in a flexible, mobile role, you will work across various locations, ensuring compliance and tackling issues such as waste crime, fly tipping, and illegal waste management.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your duties as the Environmental Enforcement Officer will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

• Investigate reports and allegations of environmental offences, collecting evidence for enforcement and prosecution purposes.
• Enforce legislation related to waste crimes, including fly tipping, littering, illegal waste treatment, and nuisance incidents.
• Prepare, serve, and manage notices, including fixed penalty notices, ensuring legal compliance.
• Conduct site visits, supervise remedial actions, and seize evidence such as hazardous materials, adhering to safety protocols.
• As the Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will act as the lead investigator in enforcement cases and provide expert evidence in court proceedings.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Environmental Enforcement Officer we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

• A Degree or higher level in Environmental Health, Waste Regulation, Criminal Investigation, or a related field.
• Proven experience of enforcement work within a regulatory or legal environment, with knowledge of environmental legislation.
• Demonstrable understanding of legal and technical aspects of enforcement, including evidence gathering and legal processes.
• Ability to interpret technical information related to waste crimes and use IT systems to generate reports and manage cases.
• As the Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will possess a full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for work purposes.
