We are currently looking for a Senior Upstream Process Lead to join a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing company. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to oversee upstream activities, manage cross-functional teams, and support new product transfers within a dynamic production environment.
Based within a state-of-the-art facility, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of upstream processes, including fermentation, downstream, and chromatography, to support the development and scalability of innovative biopharmaceutical products.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your duties as the Senior Upstream Process Lead will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Lead the technical team across fermentation, downstream, and chromatography areas to ensure efficient production and process optimisation.
- Apply scientific and technical expertise to investigate deviations, equipment failures, and operational challenges, implementing corrective actions for improved performance.
- Drive process scale-up, characterisation, and optimisation activities, supporting new product transfers from R&D.
- Monitor operational performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement through Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or Operational Excellence methodologies.
- As the Senior Lead, you will support routine manufacturing operations, oversee validation activities, and ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Senior Upstream Process Lead we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
- A Degree or higher level in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or similar).
- Proven experience working within large-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing, with knowledge of upstream and downstream techniques.
- Extensive experience in cGMP-regulated environments, including ISO9001, ISO45001, or ISO14001 frameworks.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams effectively.
- As the Senior Upstream Process Lead, you will demonstrate high levels of accountability, initiative, and a proactive approach to process improvements.
